About ___________________________________________

Paul Sebastian Smith is a Lecturer in Photography within the Creative Industries Department at Amersham & Wycombe College, Buckinghamshire. His photographic work focuses on the documentation of alternative locations and landscapes within the United Kingdom, Southern Europe and America. In 2012 the project The Way Ahead, which was published by The Velvet Cell, was part of the Adrift exhibition at The Truman Gallery, London. The exhibition toured Austria, Germany and Switzerland and linked to The Gasket Gallery, London. In 2013 he was published and exhibited as part of the one-hundred photographers in New Dutch Photography Talent 2013. The publication was on sale in The Photographer’s Gallery and Tate Modern and concluded with an exhibition at the GUP Gallery, Amsterdam. In 2015 his work, focusing on the wastelands of South London, was exhibited for The Syngenta Photography Award at Somerset House, London. The work went onto tour South America, at the Centro Cultural de São Paulo - Brazil, under the title: Scarcity-Waste. The most recent exhibit was a group show displayed at The Dukebox Theatre, Hove for Brighton Photo Fringe 2016. The exhibition was entitled Covered & Exposed and focused on the violence and mortality hidden within the landscape. The work exhibited by Smith was from the on-going series Zinc that documents and exposes the Klu Klux Klan in Arkansas, America.  He is currently studying on an MPhil in Art History at the University of Nottingham under mentor Dr. Mark Rawlinson. The research considers the British approach to the American landscape and will be completed in 2018.
